Portraiture

Application

Basically, a portrait is a picture of someone. In some cases, its the photographer who has all the power of what he wants to show in the portrait. the photographer might want to show certain aspects, or traits the person has, emphasising on them, sometimes blowing them out of proportion. When people first started having a portrait done, they had to be wealthy, as portraits used to show power and wealth.

Context

Portraiture can be found every where, from ID cards, to art galleries. also, some photographers like to create books full of their artwork, and sometimes contain portraits of people or things. Another place where you'd find portraits is on bank notes and coins, showing a important person, such as the queen, on them.

Technique
Some photographers like to photograph people in different poses, or with different expressions, whilst other photographers capture people as they are, not posing or expressing themselves falsely as this will show the viewers the real person.
Studio photography is a type of photography where the photographer captures his subject with controlled lights and colours, and with studio photography, the photographer can give the photo any type of mood he wishes.
